New West Cork Tourism Logo

About West Cork Tourism

The new West Cork Tourism logo was unveiled at the AGM on Thursday 20th February in the Bantry Bay Hotel. A few questions arose at this time with particular concern for what was perceived to be the replacement of the fuchsia logo. It is important therefore to illustrate the function of a logo and explain the reasons for this new development.

A logo is a clearly recognised symbol which is used by a company on its stationery and publicity with the specific intention of setting it apart from other companies. West Cork Tourism has recognised that the current logo no longer functions as a specific and recognisable identity for the organisation. Where once the fuchsia was a symbol that clearly identified the company and in fact successfully established West Cork as a marketable region, its adaptation and use as a quality symbol within the Fuchsia Brands has created the need for West Cork Tourism to re-establish its identity and regain its autonomy.

It should be pointed out that the fuchsia logo is a registered trademark of Fuchsia Brands Ltd., which had been used by West Cork Tourism in recent years in support of the brand and in acknowledgment of funding from the West Cork LEADER Co-op Society. The introduction of the new logo does not in anyway replace the fuchsia as the new West Cork Tourism logo is not a symbol of quality, and West Cork Tourism members who have obtained the Fuchsia Brand will continue to receive this acknowledgment on all West Cork Tourism publicity. Jean O'Sullivan of West Cork LEADER Co-op provided the following statement to clarify the use of the Fuchsia Brand logo.

The Fuchsia, long associated with West Cork has been chosen as the symbol of origin and quality for the food and tourism products of the region and reflects positive local characteristics, such as environmental quality, as well as the richness and diversity of the heritage, culture and landscape. Producers and providers sanctioned to utilise the "Fuchsia Logo" must adhere to strict quality criteria, thereby ensuring excellence in all aspects of product and service quality.

The logo is a registered trademark representing adherence to specified quality standards and accordingly, it can only be used with the prior approval of Fuchsia Brands Ltd. A number of criteria must be met which includes participation in a comprehensive training programme, details of which can be obtained from http://www.fuchsiabrands.com.

The launch of the new West Cork Tourism identity coincides with the introduction of additional benefits to West Cork Tourism members and has been timed to ensure its inclusion on all future West Cork Tourism publications. West Cork Tourism is developing to suit the demands of the industry and the membership and feels that this new logo copperfastens the organisation's intent and the confidence it has in its future success.
